Dental Implant Services in Kamloops

A dental implant is a titanium fixture that is surgically placed in the upper or lower jawbone to replace a missing tooth or teeth. The implant itself is comparable to the “root” of a tooth (i.e. It is the part of the tooth below the gum line that you cannot see.)

After surgical placement of the implant, a number of different things can be attached to the implant. It may be a single crown, replacing a single tooth, a bridge attached to two or more implants, replacing multiple teeth, or a removable appliance, such as a denture, also replacing multiple teeth. At Aberdeen Dental arts, our dentists can help you determine if dental implants in Kamloops are the right option for you. We also specialize in services such as teeth whitening and Invisalign®. The Implant Process

Restoring a tooth using an implant is a process that requires several steps.

  1. Implant: The implant, which is made of titanium, is fused to your upper or lower jawbone, depending on which tooth is being replaced. This is an invasive procedure that requires weeks to months of recovery time.
  2. Abutment: Once the implant has healed, an abutment is attached to the implant with a screw. The abutment is a post that can be made of several materials, including titanium and porcelain. It is what connects your implant to the restoration.
  3. Restoration: The part that looks like a tooth is called a restoration. It can be a crown, bridge or removable appliance made of various materials. If a crown is used, it is screwed or cemented onto the abutment. Bridges and other restorations generally snap into position on the abutment rather than screwing in, making them removable options. Bridges are a permanent option and therefore not removeable.

Because dental implants are fused to your jawbone, your restoration won’t slip, make noise or cause bone damage the way other restorative options can. While there are risks involved with any surgery, the success rate of dental implants in Kamloops is very high and very predictable, making them an excellent option for replacing your missing dentition.

Taking care of yourself after oral surgery is important

Reasons to Get Dental Implants in Kamloops

It’s important to consider all of your options when seeking ways to replace missing teeth. Generally, implants are a good restorative dental option if you:

  • Are missing one or more teeth
  • Have a full-grown jaw with adequate bone
  • Are an overall healthy person
  • Have healthy oral tissues
  • Are unwilling or unable to wear dentures
  • Want to improve your speech
  • Are willing to commit long-term to the process

Before getting dental implants in Kamloops, any underlying oral health issues you have must be managed. Implants are not recommended for smokers, those with debilitating diseases that prevent healing or those who are pregnant. Be sure to consult with your dentist if you’re interested in getting dental implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I losing my teeth?

There can be many causes such as:

• Progressed tooth decay

• Inflammation of the tooth’s supporting tissue

• Systemic disease

Is there a difference between an implant and a bridge?

Both implant and bridges are permanent and non-removable. A bridge may be used to link the gap created by one or more missing teeth. An implant, on the other hand, provides a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth which are made to match the natural teeth.

What is the cost of an implant treatment?

The cost of the implant varies according to the complexity of your case. You can contact us to get an estimate prior to your treatment.
